I have never been very good with keeping any kind of journal or diary. My grandmother traveled throughout her life and always kept one; they have been left to me and I get so much joy out of reading them. Hopefully I can keep up this blog every day throughout this journey, even though I'm not going anywhere.
I love the idea of the 21 Day Sugar Detox. Since moving back to Maryland from Maine at the end of September, I have been trying to decrease the amount of gluten I'm eating and shift over to organic produce and meats. Finding a local farm share was a huge break though, although it ended the Monday before Thanksgiving and doesn't start again until January 17th. My long range plan is to cut out 99% of sugar and sweets out of my diet and greatly limit the amount of gluten. The 21 DSD is a fantastic next step to go cold turkey. In fact, I'm going to try to follow it until the 31st.
During my junior year of college, I studied abroad in Athens, Greece. A week before the semester ended, I have a massive anxiety attack and wound up getting sick every morning for months. When I came back home, nothing tasted right after spending 5 months in Greece. I could literally taste the preservatives and sugar in food. Unfortunately, I wasn't in the state of mind to correctly learn to eat again. I ate anything that sounded good just to be able to eat. I would like to consciously get back to that place where refined food tastes bad. My tastes have always been adventurous and I don't tend to eat a lot of fast food or anything that is fat free or low calorie "diet" food. My brain has always naturally shied away from such things.
I am doing the 21 DSD to retrain my palate, reset my body, and hopefully begin patterns that will allow me to lose the weight that I would like to lose.
Have I mentioned that I work at a very high end French Patisserie and am surrounded by delicious treats all day long?
